The day after I received my special rose, I had to take my mom's car in for
servicing. I drove to the dealer and asked how long it would be. They said about
four hours.
Well I could sit and read all the magazines or I heard a little voice say, "YOU
COULD WALK HOME PRAISING ME ALL THE WAY!"
Well GOD if this is you, I surely can walk home praising you all the way…
because I CAN WALK...THANK YOU GOD!
The walk home was approximately 12 miles. It was raining, and I had on a very
thin nylon nurse's uniform with white sandals. I approached a bad neighborhood
and started to walk the long way around the lake. I heard this voice telling me
"Walk it the way you drove it."
OK God, if you are sending me, you'll take care of me, and if anything happens
to me, I'll be seeing you soon!
People must have thought I was crazy walking through this area at 8:00 in the
morning, in a wet tissue like-dress, with shoes that fell apart in the rain,
walking, and talking, praising Him all the way... Praising Him even though I was
seeing drunks under cars, drug addicts in hallways shooting up, fights in the
streets, skinny stray animals, garbage all over, cats and rats.
"God, why do you allow this? Why don't you help them?"
That voice began again… "THESE ARE MY CHILDREN. YOU ARE TO LOVE MY CHILDREN. YOU
ARE TO TEACH THEM ALL THE HUMAN ARTS. YOU ARE TO TEACH THEM ABOUT ALL MY GLORY!"
OK, OK, How do I do that?
The next five miles weren't so eventful except that I did meet someone I knew
who offered to drive me home. I told him this was something I had to do. His
answer was, "Walking 12 miles, in a dress that looks like wet tissue paper...and
NO SHOES?! Are you sure you are all right?!"
I got home five minutes before my youngest daughter got off the bus from
school... "Mommy, Mommy, come look at the beautiful flowers outside."
"Yes dear, Mommy has beautiful flowers outside..."
"No, not these flowers! These are your favorite, and there are SO MANY!"
"Mommy just came in the house and I didn't see any BIG flowers in the garden."
"WELL THEY ARE THERE NOW!"
She was right! There, between my landscaped bushes and trees were bushels and
bushels of Shasta daisies, taller than she was! And not just plopped there, but
landscaped, and mulched!
The other kids got home from school running in saying the same thing. "Look at
those beautiful flowers, they're SO BIG!"
My mother came home and said "I'm so glad you used the money I left you and
bought the flowers you love."
"Mom, I didn't use your money, and I didn't buy any flowers"
"Well, where did those huge flowers come from? And where is my car?"
"The car is in the shop."
"How did you get home?"
"I walked!"
"Why?"
"Because GOD asked me to! And then he gave me ALL THOSE DAISIES!"
They lasted and grew bigger throughout the entire year. They bloomed even in the
snow. Many people came to see my God Given Daisies in the snow. Miraculously,
they stayed beautifully groomed until we moved 15 years later.
