Symbol of repentance rue became,
Down through the ages it was named
"Herb of Grace."
Holy water sprinkled from its leaves,
Sins were washed away the sinner grieves
Tears on face.
Jesus took my sins to Calvary's tree,
Sacrificed Himself so I'd be free,
He took my place.
My sins were washed away on Calvary,
Jesus bore a cross so I'd be free,
My Herb of Grace!
Holy water sprinkled from its leaves,
My repentant spirit, Lord it grieves!
I hide my face.
For every time I choose to sin again,
I crucify once more my Sacrificial Friend,
That's my disgrace.
Holy water sprinkled Lord I rue!
All the pain and suffering you went through,
In my place.
Sins were washed away and now I'm free,
Lord forever more You'll always be,
My Hiding Place.
Little herb of grace, nature gave us you.
And on your seedpod top an open cross we view,
A symbolic trace.
Symbol of repentance rue became,
Down through the ages it was named
"Herb of Grace."
