I can't remember Mom and Dad taking dance lessons at Fred Astair's, but they
did. I can remember the night they were going to go to the "Big Dance" at the
Fred Astair Dance Studio in Decatur.
I knew something was up because Mom and Dad hurried thru supper and then took
turns in the bathroom. And Mom had her hair up in pin curls.
Mom and Dad went into their bedroom looking like Mom and Dad but when they came
out they were different people!!
Momma had on a black dress that she had sewed, with a white shawl across her
shoulders. Daddy was in his "good suit". Momma was BEAUTIFUL and Daddy was so
HANDSOME!! They looked like movie stars to me. "WOW!" Was all I could say as
they stood there before me.
Daddy bowed to Momma, and she curtsied. He took her hand in his and then put his
arm around her waist. They began to dance around our living room. There was no
music that I could hear, but they must have heard it in their minds as they
twirled and dipped in perfect step , looking into each others eyes.
My Momma was glowing with a beauty I had never seen before. She didn't have on a
lot of makeup, just some lipstick and a dab of powder, but she was just
beautiful.
Daddy was handsome and powerful as he twirled her around to the music in their
minds.
It hit me, they were in LOVE!!! My mother and father did truly LOVE each other!
That is one thing I will always remember, the night they went a dancing.
