Floor Maintenance Technician

“For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse.”- Romans 1:20

Shortly after high school, I worked for a while waxing and buffing floors at a local grocery store. Then the time came when I wanted to find a “real job”, so I had my resume’ typed up to submit to potential employers.

Of course, one of the critical things that you list on a resume’ is your employment history, which in my case included waxing and buffing floors.

Now, that entry on my resume’ didn’t really stand out as something desirable for potential employers, so I did my best to make it sound as important as possible.

I listed that I had worked as a “Floor Maintenance Technician”. Now, in reality all that meant was I waxed and buffed floors, but it sure made me feel better to call it something that sounded better.

You know, that’s how many people treat sin. They dress it up as something other than what it really is so they can feel better about it.

They call it a “bad habit” or “entertainment” or a “disease” or a “lifestyle” or a “choice”. When, really, it’s just sin.

The Bible tells us there is no excuse for our sin. We can make it sound like something other than what it is. We can feel better after dressing it up with some other word. We can label it whatever we want. But in the end, it’s still sin in need of forgiveness.

Instead of calling it something it isn’t, let us confess it for what it is.

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” - 1 John 1:9
