Scratching The Surface

1 Corinthians 2:10 - But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. (NKJV)

While doing some work in my garden, I came across some roots, and many worms, just below the surface of the soil. After I was done, I was sitting on the deck, reflecting. I noticed that a bird had come into the garden. It was pecking at the grass and soil area for some food. It was basically scratching the surface and not finding a lot to eat. Had it just gone a bit deeper, it would have found the worms and things of more substance.

Our prayer times can sometimes resemble that bird, just scratching the surface, trying to cover as much area as we can in an allotted amount of time. If only we could concentrate on the Lord and go deeper with the Spirit, then we would be honouring God, and we would receive the full benefits of our prayer time with the Lord.

Colossians 1:3 - We give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you. (NKJV)

Prayer: Dear Jesus, we repent of just scratching the surface; we truly want to go deeper with You. Prompt us to Your wishes and Your heart in our prayer time with You. Help us to put our time schedule and agendas to one side and allow Your agenda to be our focus. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
