Signed, Sealed and Delivered

"Well, he's got the completed upright going," remarked angel one to angel two
on the space-away, "he must be finished by now." "Sshh, they're in a huddle
again," answered angel two, "but I can't quite hear what they're saying."
"You're right, they're in a huddle," concurred angel one, "but look, the
uprights are in it too, as well as Elohim."
"He's saying," whispered angel two, straining even further over the edge of the
space-away, "'Bless . Increase . Have dominion .' Did you hear that?" And he
turned to angel one, his eyes wide, his wings trembling with excitement.
"No, I couldn't hear properly. What did he say?"
"He said the man and the woman have dominion over all the creatures, everything
that moves, crawls, flies or swims, and then even . Even ." Angel two listened
again intently.
"Go on, what else?" Urged angel one.
Angel two turned back to angel one, amazement all over him. "He gave them the
plants and their seeds, all the trees and their seeds and all the food plants
and all the grasses that the creatures are to eat. He gave it all to them -
everything. Just . Just . Gave it, gave it all. Wow!"
"Wow!" Repeated angel one. "What a present. He has given them the whole world
that he just finished making. What a present!" And he was so excited, the tears
filled his eyes to the rim.
Angel two smiled through the mist in his own eyes. "They must be ecstatic. Well,
Elohim must be finished now, he hasn't stopped making and planning and giving
for a whole six days. Perhaps he'll go back to paradise now to give us a
briefing."
"Sshh, no, listen," and angel one bent his head lower, just as the day was
closing in, "listen, Elohim is putting a blessing on the new day coming in. Sshh,
he . He . He's blessed the whole new day and . And . Said it's holy."
"That means everything really is finished," answered angel two thoughtfully. "Elohim
has finished everything off with its own built-in, full day, memorial. Phew!"
"Let's go down," urged angel one and they floated down to celebrate community.
The sun had gone down and all life stood together with its giver as the stars
began to twinkle.
"This is the ultimate nonsense," muttered the dark angel to the serpent from the
tree further over.
"We'll handle it," soothed the serpent, the most subtle of all creatures. "It
will take a while, but rest assured, we will get rid of it."
"How?" Demanded the dark angel impatiently. "Nobody will ever forget this. Even
the other angels sent representatives to the inauguration. You can't just wipe
off a day!"
"Stay with me," smiled the serpent. "It will be a challenge and it will take
time."
"Huh!" Grumped the dark angel impatiently, "we'll have to knock down the whole
structure. How long will it take?"
"Oh, give it a few millennia," murmured the serpent. "You'll see. Memory is hard
to erase, but we can make six working days into seven or nine or thirteen -
whatever it takes. Believe me, we will make a six work-day work week look so
old-fashioned and obstructive, they'll be glad to get rid of it." And he stroked
the dark angel's head until he was quite calm again.
