“Good Morning America,” were the words I thought to myself as I woke up at
4:00am on October 28th. I still couldn’t believe I was back home in Lake
Jackson, Texas. Just six months ago I was heading away from this place into the
unknown land of Vietnam. Now I am back in America staring at all my packed up
boxes I had left at my parent’s house trying to make since of what to do with
them next. Some part of me is excited to begin the new chapter in my life, but
other parts are grieving, having just left a precious family in Vietnam. Which
is the true response to something God has asked me to do?
As I try to recap the last six months on paper, it just seems nothing will
perfectly describe everything God has done. I don’t want just another ‘good’
story to tell, I want the very God story that pierces your heart to dive into
his calling even more than before.
I spent 6 months living, breathing, eating, crying, sleeping, praying, laughing,
and loving the Vietnamese culture…One of the many life lessons came to me last
month. One day I was frustrated with the fact that all the things I was doing,
no one really cared about. No one even acknowledged or took notice in the blood,
sweat and tears that I had been going through just to make the accounting system
work. God gently reminded me “who are you working for anyways?” Quickly I
replied, “you Lord…you.”
The very next day I was in the kitchen weighing apples at 7:00am in the morning.
I looked at the scale and began to laugh at myself. I thought …..WHO in their
RIGHT mind would travel around the world to a place totally unknown to them and
weigh apples for God. Why would someone even DO that? Shouldn’t God’s children
be doing something SOOO much more than weight apples? I am no one special, but
God chose me to do that very job. It’s the little things that God asks you to do
and your heart’s response to it that God is looking for.
Whether you are doing something HUGE or little, do it to the best of your
ability for Jesus Christ and no one else. Your life will be changed when you
change your attitude.
That is just one golden nugget that God has implanted in my heart for life.
