Princess

"And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day. And Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God in the middle of the trees in the garden. And the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, where are you?" Gen. 2: 8, 9

Princess was a beloved fur-person who resided in my daughter's household. Princess belonged to the man of the family and had actually belonged to him longer than my daughter had known him. Princess was a one-person cat and therefore didn't elicit a warm fuzzy feeling from the members of the extended family. But her 'Papa' loved her so we did, too.

One morning my husband and I were left at home alone. We were leaving that day to return to California and so we said our 'good-byes' and assured everyone that we'd lock up before we actually left.

Princess was an indoor kitty but occasionally she would escape and so we were especially careful to close the outside door each time we went through it in the process of packing the car. Finally everything was in the car and it was time for us to leave but first - Princess must be put in 'her' room until her family returned that afternoon.

It was my job to find Princess. Now most of you know that calling a cat is an occupation in futility. A cat comes when and if it wants to and Princess didn't want to. I began searching the house, upstairs in all the bedrooms, under the beds, and in the closets, anywhere where a cat could hide. Then on to the main floor under and behind everything and finally down to the basement. Alas, no Princess. Now I began to worry - had Princess sneaked out in spite of our watchfulness? How am I going to tell my son-in-law that I have lost his cat? I prayed, fervently, and began my search through the house - AGAIN, - Still no Princess. It was time for more prayer, and the beginning of still another search. As I looked under a certain bed for the 3rd time - I noticed a bulge in the spread hanging down on the backside. Ah HA! Could THAT be Princess? I gently poked the bulge and was rewarded with an "a-r-r-a-g-h". Beds don't usually growl so I knew I had found the missing kitty. How happy I was to carry her downstairs to her room and you can be sure I was careful to shut the door with her inside and how thankful I was to my Heavenly Father that Princess was safe!

Are we like Princess? Do we refuse to heed God's call, do we 'hide' and do we miss out on interesting and good things just because we want to do what we want to do? Princess was only a beloved cat - and how much more does God love us - if only we'll heed his call.

"Come unto Me, all you that labour are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28 KJIIV
