Worth Trusting

I have a friend who’s bold, delightfully bold. She told me one day, “Janet, you’re crazy, really nuts to go flying across the country without being able to see a thing!”

“Sheesh, I love traveling!” I said, stifling my laugh at her silly concern.
“What if someone takes your bags? Or worse yet, you end up in the wrong terminal?”

Ah! The “what ifs” in life—so many of them—what if my interpreting career ended, what if my novels were never published, what if a health diagnosis sent me reeling back, what if a loved one was taken suddenly?

Often, just the thought of the dreaded thing blasts fear, and the venom of anxiety spreads throughout. But that’s because the antidote—complete trust in God—is missing from the medicine cabinet of our soul.

Having experienced that myself, I learned the important lesson—knowing the difference between trusting and believing. Anyone can say they believe in God. Even Satan believes in God. But it’s a whole different story to trust, completely trust in Him—even when the most dreaded circumstance slams into our life. The question is: When facing that dreaded circumstance, do we still trust that God is perfectly capable to bring healing, to strengthen us, to re-direct our steps, and to turn it all to good? Hmm…do we truly, truly trust, or barely believe?

“Do not fear, for I am with you; do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you; surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10)

Now…that’s worth trusting, don’t you think?
