Parliament building, Victoria, B.C.
We had finally arrived at Victoria, BC. Our first stop had been the beautiful
parliament building, and our next would be the Pacific Undersea Gardens, located
in the Victoria harbor. It was actually just across the road, but at that time
of the day this particular road was packed with heavy traffic. I could see there
would be a problem arriving there safely!
"How can we get across this road?" I wondered.
Of course, we weren't the only ones trying to cross the road. It appeared that
the local pedestrians were unfazed by the chaotic, bumper to bumper, fast-moving
traffic. They simply crossed whenever they felt like it, and the cars and trucks
had no choice but to make adjustments to their speed and trajectory in order to
avoid having a collision!
"They're crazy!" I muttered. But that's when I heard a still, small voice: "Have
faith and cross the road!"
"Yes Lord, I do have faith in you. It's those human maniacs I don't trust!"
"Have faith in ME and cross the street!"
I couldn't believe my ears! God was actually telling me to throw caution to the
wind! How . . . ? Then I realized that by focusing on the problem of all of that
traffic rather than focusing on God, the ultimate solution to all of our
problems, I was allowing my current situation to become my reality!
Filled with a sudden boldness, I raised my hand and stepped out into the
tumultuous traffic! "I have faith in You, Lord!" I whispered with each step, and
amazingly, the vehicles either stopped or changed lanes to avoid us! My entire
family succeeded in crossing that road without the loss of any items of anatomy!
That was fun! Why don't I step out into faith more often?
I determined that I would try and do so, and in the upcoming days, I succeeded
in exercising my faith on several occasions. And each time we succeeded in
remaining in one piece!
We are faced with similar problems every day, and we are constantly coming up
against a choice: Will we focus on our circumstances or on the Solution called
Jesus Christ?
"Have faith in God," Jesus answered. "I tell you the truth, if anyone says to
this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his
heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him.
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have
received it, and it will be yours." (Mark 11:22-25 NIV)
Do you need any help crossing the street?
"Have faith!"
