Proverbs 13:10 - Only by pride
cometh contention; but with the well advised is wisdom. (KJV)
Isaiah 48:17 - Thus saith the Lord, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am
the Lord thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way
that thou shouldest go. (KJV)
Driving back from Las Vegas to Los Angeles, we stopped at several beautiful
little towns, and had decided to spend the night at one, a couple of hours out
of Los Angeles. Our thinking was that rather than going right into Los Angeles,
we would alleviate the hassle of fighting traffic to the airport the next day.
We got up and took our time because we figured we had plenty of it. We also
thought we knew the way to the airport -- well, at least the one who was driving
did -- and I put my trust in the one who was driving.
As things would have it, the traffic was heavy due to an accident. To make
matters worse, freeway exits being what they are, if one misses the one wanted,
it takes a good many kilometres and several extra turns to get back to where one
thinks one is going. As it turned out, even having done that, it wasn't correct.
Time was beginning to close in on us.
So we went back to the motel in Los Angeles where we'd stayed at the beginning
of our journey, and got written directions. It was evident that without them, we
would not ever have found our way, because there were some tricky little turns
that were not marked.
Life's like that too. Without direction, we flounder. We need to heed the
direction given by our parents and teachers. Most of all, we need the direction
and guidance of God's Word. Even if we stray, when we go back to the beginning,
back to the basic teachings of His Word, we find ourselves heading in the right
direction.
Prayer: We give thanks to You, O God, for Your clear, written directions for our
life's journey. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
