The Blanket

Psalm 4:8 "I
will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in
safety." NIV
Our two storey log home does not have heat registers upstairs. We depend upon
the heat from the main floors wood stove to meander its way up the staircase.
Although this works well most of the time, during the years coldest months the
upstairs bedrooms can become downright chilly. I do not appreciate this fact
when I creep out of bed early in the morning, I do however love the sense of
security and warmth I encounter as I snuggle into soft flannelette sheets topped
by a cozy blanket when retiring at night.
Laying there cocooned against the winter's cold I am reminded of the blanket of
God's promises which cover his people when the chill of fear seeks to penetrate
our hearts. Life is constantly influx but the word of the Lord stands forever.
People and things fail us but the word of the Lord is proven and perfect; it is
as a blanket of protection around those who trust in him allowing them to lie
down and sleep in peace, to dwell in safety.
Today I do not know what chilly circumstances may blow into my life, but I do
know that amidst it all I can count on the protective blanket of God's promises
to cloak me in his peace and see me through the night.
Prayer: Lord God we thank you that heaven and earth will pass away, but your
words will by no means pass away. We bless you O Lord that your word is settled
forever in heaven. And we praise you that you are a shield to all who trust in
you. In Christ's name we pray. Amen
