"There
is no one like the God of Jeshurun, who rides on the heavens to help you and on
the clouds in his majesty. The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are
the everlasting arms. He will drive out your enemy before you, saying, destroy
him!"
Deuteronomy 33:26-27
I have always had a problem. Long before the skinny
girl look was popular, there was me. I just don't seem to have a waist or hips,
I'm just sort of all up and down in a straight line. Though this look has never
bothered me, it sure causes a problem when it comes to slacks, jeans and pants,
not to mention skirts...if you get my drift.
Everything likes to slide instead of remaining where
they are meant to be. I have tried tighter clothes. I have tried different
styles. I have tried belts. But the only thing I end up with is indigestion,
pinched skin and discomfort. Finally I came to a conclusion. I decided that at
my age, I didn't care anymore what anyone thought so I bought myself a pair of
suspenders, to wear with my slacks. They absolutely work wonders. They have
solved my problem.
Suspenders hold things up, that's what they are meant
to do and I am extremely grateful to the person who invented them. I am even
more grateful however to God who holds me up as a Christian. Life unlike me, is
full of curves. It isn't straight up and down. The path goes hither and thither.
And sometimes that path can get a little bit scary, okay....maybe a whole lot
scary. No matter what happens however as God's people we always have his
assurance that he is eternally with us, helping us, granting us refuge and
holding us up in his everlasting arms as he drives out before us whatever enemy
we are facing.
Today as I feel my suspenders doing their job, how
grateful I am that I know God is doing his too!
Prayer: Father God thank you that we can count on you
today and every day to hold us up as your children. Grant us faith this day to
allow you to do your job amidst whatever fearful, devastating , or confusing
curves life may bring our way. We praise you that we are safe with eternal
victory in your everlasting arms. In Christ's name we pray. Amen.
