The Call

Isaiah 6:8 "Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying,
whom shall I send? And who will go for us? And I said, here am I. Send me!"
NIV
As a prison guard in a small town, I am always on call, so I keep a bag in the
closet packed and ready to go. My shift may be short or it could be quite long,
it could be mid-day or midnight so I make sure I have reading and writing
materials, games, handicrafts and snacks to keep me busy and fed during what
could be a long shift of overseeing one or several guests.
Likewise God desires that we be open to His call to go where he wants us to go
and to do what he wants us to do; a call which each of us as Christians is
equipped to answer, for as the apostle Paul learned as he responded over and
over again to the call of Christ,
"I can do everything through him who gives me
strength." Philippians 4:13 NIV
Today God might be calling any one of us to go; to go through a devastating loss
with courage and faith or to embrace an unexpected joy with humility and grace.
He may be beckoning us to speak gently with a friend concerning their spiritual
condition or talk to a crowd of 500 about His love and salvation. He may be
asking us to answer His call to give up something which is precious to us, so
that others may be blessed with what we take for granted day by day. Whatever
the case, no matter how frightened, worried, annoyed or inadequate we may feel,
we can do everything, and do it well, through him who gives us his strength, if
we will only choose to believe and embrace this marvellous truth.
Paul chose rightly, how shall we choose?
Prayer: Father God thank you that we can do everything through Christ who gives
us his strength. Thank you that no matter what you may ask of us, like Isaiah we
too can answer, here am I, send me. Bless us this day we pray with open, willing
and trusting hearts to believe your truth. In Christ’s name we ask. Amen.
