Totally Secure

Mountain goats are a marvel. They can climb on rocky crevices and never fall.
Actually mountain goats are not goats at all. They are members of the antelope
family and well adapted to rocky cliff dwelling. Their hoofs have pads that
prevent them from skidding on rocks and work like suction cups when weight is
applied. They have four hoofs per foot with two halves of each hoof moving
independently of the other, giving the goat a better grip while climbing.
His hoof construction makes the mountain goat virtually accident free as he
walks and climbs on rocky surfaces. I wish I had his security. I wouldn’t have
to worry about falling, tripping, twisting an ankle or falling off a ladder.
Interestingly, the prophet says it’s possible. "The
Lord GOD is my strength, And He has made my feet like hinds’ feet, And makes me
walk on my high places." (Habakkuk 3:19 NASB).
Security is a basic human need. If satisfied, we grow into well rounded
individuals with good mental health, but when unmet we struggle with acceptance
issues, inappropriate decisions and unhealthy relationships.
Security needs require satisfaction early in life. Parents do it by spending
time with their children, listening to their questions, and providing the basic
needs of food, water and shelter. They also satisfy them with hugs, kisses and
snuggle time. Daughters whose fathers aren’t afraid to show affection are less
likely to seek it in inappropriate places.
But eternal security-our supreme security need, is not found in earthly
relationships. It is realized by connecting with our Heavenly Father. We come
through Christ by way of forgiveness of our sins, and when we do we have the
assurance that nothing can ever separate us from his love. We will walk securely
on high places.
Let a relationship with Jesus be your ultimate security blanket. We may stumble
about on earth, but ultimately we’ll climb safely to the top.
Prayer: Merciful God, thank You for the assurance that we are protected by Your
love.
