It's easy to feel connected and
assured of God's handiwork in our lives when things are going great; however,
what happens when life throws a curve ball and that connection seems to
dissipate? In my own life, trials and obstacles make knowing God that much
harder, because He is not always vocal when the going gets rough.
I believe the biggest trick of the enemy is to
convince the believer that God only hangs around when life is going smooth and
there are no tribulations to overcome; however God's word says something totally
different from that distorted thinking. Hebrews 13:5 is very clear on the stance
God takes towards his children, and offers hope to those believers who are going
through a very dry and distant land in life. Hebrews says," Keep your lives free
from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said,
"Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." God is gives us a guideline
to keep ourselves free from the worry of earthly treasures, and to be content
where we are at. Some of the problems and worries that Christians have is the
worry of earthly possessions, and how to keep them; which can lead to a
disconnect from what God really wants for His children. I think we have two very
important keys in this passage of scripture: to keep our eyes off of earthly
possessions and to understand God will never leave us or forsake us.
Life has so many different dynamics and can send even
the strongest believer into a tail-spin over challenges that might seem too hard
to face. It's my opinion that a majority of these challenges stem from concern
over monetary things. The stress of bills, taking care of children, distress
over a current job; all lead to the Christians eyes being taken away from God
and focused on what they do not have. God says," leave those concerns to me and
realize I will never leave you or forsake you." This is a comforting scripture
because God is constantly with us guiding out paths to the straight and narrow,
and He will not let us fall.
Instead of leaning on your bank account, try leaning
on God. In place of fret and anxiety, realize that God has you in the palm of
His hand and He isn't going any place. What a freedom that brings to my soul!
It's exciting to have a creator who is at my side on a regular basis, and isn't
going to bail on me when things get a bit too big to handle. Next time instead
of going into a stressed out fit over what is going on in your life, take a
moment and breathe-God isn't going anywhere!
