Rainbows As Reminders

Genesis 9:13 - I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign
of the covenant between me and the earth. (NIV)
Some messages that God sends to us are corporate messages, such as the covenant
spoken to Noah and displayed in the rainbow for every generation to see. At
times, though, God speaks to us personally in ways that only we can recognize.
Several years ago, we were blindsided by a stroke that instantly altered our
lives and turned our world upside-down. Before long, our new reality had severed
connections with friends, church, and work. Our family was living in a bubble
focused on survival and recovery. For an entire year following the "main event",
we trekked back and forth on foot for therapy sessions and doctors'
appointments. As we made our way through the city streets, we began to notice
feathers. Soon feathers found us wherever we went. Tiny feathers drifted down
from the sky like snowflakes. We were inundated by feathers. It was impossible
not to take notice. My heart sensed that it was God's way of telling us that we
were not alone on this journey, despite what our earthly eyes reported: we were
surrounded by angels, and God was with us.
As things stabilized and began to improve, the feathers stopped and were
replaced by the year of hearts: heart-shaped tear drops, stones, shadows, and
even rainbows -- symbols received as reminders of God's unfailing love for us.
It has been five years since this journey of recovery began. The urgency has
passed, and the dust has settled. What does our future hold? At times, things
seem so uncertain and unstable. Recently, God captured my attention with
rainbows at Niagara Falls -- bright double rainbows, rich colourful rainbows,
soft misty rainbows, even the end of a rainbow! Now we are seeing rainbows
almost daily. God is speaking to my heart once again and reminding me to
continue to trust in His promises -- a loving message delivered through the
beauty of a rainbow.
God is not limited in the ways that He can remind us that He remembers and keeps
His promises to us. We may not know what our future holds, but we know the One
who holds our future. We can depend on Him!
Prayer: Loving Father, thank You for wrapping Your promise in a rainbow, a
beautiful reminder to us of Your love and faithfulness. Thank You for speaking
to us in unique and personal ways which ensure that we recognize Your voice and
which draw us close to You. We are grateful that You are watching over us and
are always with us. Strengthen us through Your living Word and continue to speak
to our hearts. We give You all glory and praise, in the precious name of Jesus.
Amen.
