The Nails

He looked into the future and felt every lash of the whip as it tore into His flesh;

He knew this day would come that the two would have to mesh.

He could feel the roughness of the wooden cross against a back that was raw;

His accusers said He did wrong….that He blasphemed and broke the law.

But the nails, oh those nails, with each pounding of the hammer it almost took His breath away.

For no wrong did He do, yet He was made to pay.

He saw himself struggle under the weight of a cross as the crowd shouted curses;

Even though He was in the right…….He asked for no mercy.

He felt the hate and it broke His heart for it was worse than the bodily pain;

He only wanted to make them understand that they had everything to gain.

His love for them was so strong that He was willing to lay down His life;

Truth be known He would do it again…..this man called Jesus Christ.
