Whiter than Snow

Psalm 51:7 "Cleanse me of my wickedness with hyssop, and I will be clean. If You wash me, I will be whiter than snow." (The Voice)

The sun's warming rays touch the earth, setting the spring thaw in motion. Winter's soft white blanket of snow is now trimmed with a gritty brown perimeter. Renegade items of trash, blown around by bitter winds and concealed under layers of snow, are suddenly exposed like ugly secrets. Sidewalks and roads and low lying areas are temporarily flooded with cold dirty water, or transformed into sheets of ice, as the temperature fluctuates. The transition from winter to spring is messy and uncomfortable.

We are truly blessed that Jesus covers us with His blood and our sins are removed forever. When we mess up, we don't have to worry about experiencing an uncomfortable transition from sinner to forgiven; we need only say, "Sorry Jesus, please forgive me." When the love of God touches our heart and begins to transform our lives, sometimes things we've forgotten or tried to ignore, pop into our thoughts and are exposed just like the unsightly buried winter treasures. But unlike the spring thaw, Jesus doesn't exposed our sins for everyone else to see, and we don't have to work at removing their ugly marks. When Jesus makes us whiter than snow, He removes our sins from his sight and thoughts forever and gives us a fresh start. Because of Jesus, we can live free from the shame and guilt of our past mistakes, no matter how many times we fluctuate between sin and forgiveness.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, we thank you for taking our ragged sinful lives and transforming us into new creations. Thank you for Your forgiveness, grace, and love. You are the same yesterday, today, and forever, and You do not lie; this truth gives us hope for a bright future. Lord, we thank you for inviting us to come directly into Your presence through prayer. Forgive us our sins and guide our steps. We offer You our praises, petitions, and thanksgiving, in Jesus' mighty Name we pray. Amen.
