I love Christmas. I am reminded of the greatest gift
given to mankind-eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
When we put up our tree, I am reminded of the
sacrifice our Lord did for one and all. (Acts 5:30) “The God of our fathers
raised Jesus from the dead whom you had killed by hanging him on a tree.”
The lights remind me of how the stars shined so
brightly to the shepherds in the field. (Luke 2:8-14) “And there were shepherds
living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An
angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them,
and they were terrified. But the angel said unto them, “Do not be afraid, I
bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the
town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be
a sign to you. You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising
God and saying. “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to men on whom
His favor rests.”
The bright star at the top of the tree reminds me of
the Magi. (Matt.2:1-2)
“After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea during the
time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is
the one who has been born King of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have
come to worship him.”
The garland wrapped around the tree reminds me of the
robe the soldiers wrapped around Jesus as they mocked him. (Matt. 15:17-18)
“They put a purple robe on him, then twisted a crown of thorns and set it on
him. And they began to call out to him, “Hail, the King of the Jews.” The pine
needles on the tree remind me of his crown of thorns.
The bulbs placed on the tree are a reminder to pray
for the lost. Each bulb reminds me to pray for those who need Jesus in their
lives.
This is how I look at a Christmas tree. I see Jesus
and am reminded of His love, mercy and forgiveness.
