Without Reliance

A man sat contemplating on a stone his past, many harms.
He couldn't count on his callused fingers times of strife.
His sorrowful mind recalled holding in his arms,
The soft tender body of his cherished wife.

Sad memories flash back of the time when
they walked on the beach.
Roasting hotdogs in the sand, the wind blowing through her auburn hair.
All the wonderful candlelight dinners in mind's reach.
His breaking heart yearned for more happy times to share.

In a hospital bed she lay, she was refusing to fight anymore.
Her faith had been forgotten, her death time was near.
Leaving a lonely man to gaze over at the ocean shore.
She was losing the will to fight, being led by fear.

The man held back his tears, a resolution set in.
He would go once more, lending his voice to God on her behalf.
Only he could restore her faith, lead her on the right path again.
On his kness he prayed to God, the one bearing the healing staff.
