The Box

Once upon a time,

I put God in a box.
Later I realized
That I was the one in the box;
And the lid was locked down.
The struggle began.
All my knees and elbows were bruised;
Even the top of my head was battered!
But no word came from the Prime Mover;
Nor succor from the Force.

Whimpering from self-inflicted pain,
I made a bed at the bottom of the box
And cozied up on the floor,
Laying there dormant,
Almost dead for years.

Then, our of nowhere, revival came.
Forgetting about the locked-down lid,
I stretched my hands to Heaven
And the LID POPPED OPEN,
Revealing an unbelievable Creation
Before my incredulous eyes:
A blue sky, stars, planets in orbit;
Birds, flowers and souls;
And more souls --
Kindred souls!
And a God Who loves me!
He is a Person.
He has a Personality.
He has Emotion.
He has Plans.
And I'm included in Them.
And He really loves me,
He really, really does.

I rejoice.
I sing and dance and play
And swim in the River of Life.
I celebrate the newness
Of my reborn life
Out of the box!

You see, He really loves me;
He really, really does!
