The belt of truth Sadness surrounds us at
every turn. Thousands upon thousands of people are dying from COVID-19. Is
it any wonder so many are anxious?
It is sad to say, however, that there are those who are not completely
truthful in reporting the facts about their countries, their infection
rates, etc. It reminds me of WWII when not everything broadcasted by the
enemy was true. Unfortunately, we see this in the middle of our current
pandemic as well.
Truth, then, becomes vitally important, and truth is the first piece
of God’s armament: “Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around
your waist…” (Eph. 6:14a NIV)
Just what is truth, anyway, and how do we know if we’ve found it? With
so many sources of information, it can be hard to know Truth.
Jesus Himself tells us: “I
am the way and the truth and the life…” (John 14:6 NIV).
Jesus, Himself, is Truth! He is also the Word: “In the beginning was the
Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was
with God in the beginning” (John 1:1-2 NIV). This helps us to understand why
it is so important to follow the Bible! When we stand on the Truth of God’s
Word, when we have Jesus holding us together, we will know what is Truth, we
will know what to do. After all, we are told: “Ask and you will receive, and
your joy will be complete…” (John
16:24 NIV)
In other words, we just have to ask Jesus, our “belt”, the One who
holds us together. He IS Truth. Put on that “belt of Truth”, and no one will
ever be able to give you wrong advice.
As many of you know, I was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s about a year
ago. According the medical field, there is no cure. I would lose myself. I
would lose my abilities to remember, to reason, to function. The problem is,
this “truth” was contrary to “Truth”. “Truth” is the One who, “…forgives all
your sins and heals all your diseases…” (Ps. 103:3 NIV) I decided to don the
“Belt of Truth”. I decided to trust Jesus and take Him at His word, and He
saved me. Otherwise I would not be able to write this devotional!
I chose to trust in Jesus alone. I wear Him as my Truth. He healed me,
and he will continue to help me know Truth.
Looking for your first line of defense against the devil? It is Jesus,
the “belt of Truth”. Don’t fall for the lies of the enemy. Trust only in
Jesus!
In His love,
Rob Chaffart
