Tale of Two Sparrows

My writing desk looks out on our backyard, which my husband is steadily transforming into a beautiful garden. Each morning I spend some pleasant time there with my coffee and Bible. It's also a favorite time of day for the bird population in my yard. They entertain me daily as they make their rounds to several feeders, then have an early morning splash in the birdbath.

One morning I observed a tiny bird land on my feeder. As it enjoyed its breakfast of sunflower seeds, I thought of the scripture in Matthew 10:29, 31: "Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father's will. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows."

I began praying for one of my daughters who was going through a particularly difficult time. I reminded myself that she could not fall to the ground against the Father's will. I prayed earnestly for God's care over her.

As I was praying, another bird landed on the opposite side of the feeder. It also began to enjoy a breakfast of sunflower seeds. The second bird was a gentle reminder from the Lord that I have a second daughter. Since she seemed to be gliding through life, I assumed she didn't need as much prayer. But God reminded me that both daughters are of infinite value to Him. They both need His watchful care, and equal attention in my prayers.
