Two unschooled, ordinary men (Acts 4:13), pastors of churches in the jungle, had
come across a tribe of about 3,000 people, where the two chiefs were on their
sick beds. They requested prayer from the men who told them about Jesus the
Savior and Healer. "We will pray for you," they answered, "but on one condition.
You tell your people to bring all their fetishes and idols and burn them (Acts
19:19). Then we will pray for you." It took a few days, but the chiefs were
getting deadly sick by now and they gave orders, although somewhat reluctantly.
And a not too spontaneous bonfire was lit. Then the men prayed and Jesus the
Healer touched those two chiefs with His healing power immediately. "And about
three thousand were added to their number that day." (Acts 2:41)
Another pastor in the jungle prayed and fasted for forty days in the mountains
(Matthew 4:2). When he came back to the village, he was told that his sister had
died. He said to the messenger, "Do not bury her, I will fast and pray some more
and come tomorrow." The next day, turning to the dead woman, he said, "Sister,
get up!" She opened her eyes and seeing her brother, she sat up (Acts 9:40).
"This was the second time that a person was raised from the dead in this man's
ministry," Andreas added. "Years ago the Holy Spirit showed me in a vision how
head hunters would come out of the jungle to meet me and I would lead them to
Christ," Andreas related to us. "And that has already come to pass, but there
are so many more tribes hiding out in the jungle, who never have heard the name
of Jesus!" Then he added, "The task is so immense, but I am glad that Albert and
Joanne are willing to come to help me in Irian Jaya. And I would like for you,
John and Carol, to come too, even if it is only for a short time!"
