Endure Hardship

“But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.” – 2 Timothy 4:5

In 1944, a farmer from Sussex, England wrote to the Scripture Gift Mission enclosing a five-shilling ($1.25) offering. The Scripture Gift Mission was involved in placing Scripture posters in bomb shelters and providing troops with Christian literature.

In his letter, the farmer requested prayer that no bombs should drop on his small farm. His previous harvest had not been good, and Sussex was experiencing a drought. His farm was very dry and he was forced to buy water.

The secretary of the Mission, Mr. Ashley Baker, wrote back and said he could not ask that no bombs would fall on his property, but instead he would pray that God's will might be done.

In June 1944, Hitler unleashed the V1 rockets on England. One of these landed on the man's farm. It broke all his windows, but no one was hurt.

The explosion was so big that it went down very deep and unearthed a spring. The spring not only watered his farm well, but it enabled him to let others have water too.

Grateful for a very good harvest, and the farmer sent a fifty-pound check to the Scripture Gift Mission as a thanksgiving offering.

It is not easy to endure hardship, but that is when we grow most in Christ’s grace. Today in prayer, thank the Lord for the trials you are going through and thank Him for the yet to be revealed relief He will provide for you.

"Grace grows best in winter." - Samuel Rutherford

God’s Word: “We sent Timothy, who is our brother and God's fellow worker in spreading the gospel of Christ, to strengthen and encourage you in your faith, so that no one would be unsettled by these trials. You know quite well that we were destined for them.” – 1 Thessalonians 3:2-3
