Poor Karen. Talk about a sticky situation. She was gluing on a nice set of fake
nails when the glue sprung a little leak (you'd think it would've sealed itself,
wouldn't you?). Before she knew what was happening, her new white tablecloth was
solidly adhered to her left hand. She struggled to find some way to get the
tablecloth unstuck without losing three and a half of her left fingerprints and
a significant part of her life-line, but after several minutes of struggling,
she realized it was past time to pick up her kids from school. She had to just
grab her keys and go, tablecloth trailing after her.
"How come you're cleaning the steering wheel with your new tablecloth, Mom?"
"I'm not. I'm stuck."
"You're kidding, right? What are you doing, some sort of Linus imitation or
something?"
Eyeroll. "Okay, yes, that's it. And this is my security tablecloth. So don't
mess with me. I'm insecure."
Oh, those love-filled family bonding moments in the car. Most of the bonding in
that particular scene was to the tablecloth, but at least there was bonding.
Colossians 3:14 tells us about God's kind of bonding moments. "And above all
these [put on] love and enfold yourselves with the bond of perfectness [which
binds everything together completely in ideal harmony]." (AMP) God's kind of
bonding really does hold a family together. His love is that bond- and it's
stronger than even the best nail glue.
We can be secure in the perfect, bonding love of God. His love is our real
security blanket. Bonding with others in His love is His plan. In Ephesians
4:1-3, Paul says, "Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead
a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. Be humble and
gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other's faults
because of your love. Always keep yourselves united in the Holy Spirit, and bind
yourselves together with peace." (NLT)
Let's make allowances for each other. Let's love each other with God's perfect
love. Let's grab hold of His love and never let go. Whether we're grabbing with
six and half fingerprints or a full set of ten.
