Storms

Ephesians 4:31 - Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamour and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. (NASB)

In Alberta, we have a saying, "If you don't like the weather, just wait for five minutes." It is true. Our international students are amazed at how quickly our weather changes. It can be bright and sunny one minute, and the next, the clouds have rolled in, and before we know it, it is raining. Often, those storms are ferocious -- rain pouring down in sheets, or hail with a strong wind blowing. It looks devastating with the dark clouds. Often rivers are flowing down the streets. We stand aghast, watching from the window. Then, in the blink of an eye, the sun is shining again, the birds are singing, and all is well. It certainly doesn't take long for the weather to change.

I wonder, with the storms in our lives, how quickly do we change? When the storm is ferocious and long, do we turn to anger, resentment, and bitterness? Do the rivers of discouragement, despair, and depression rush into our hearts?

Then how long will it be before we embrace the Sonshine again? He is just behind the clouds. The clouds will pass. The Son will shine again. Let's cling to the hope of renewed Sonshine in our hearts.

Prayer: O Lord Jesus, storms are a part of life. Help us to look beyond the dark clouds, the rain, the hail, the snow, the sleet. When we get bogged down by the storms, help us to turn to You quickly. Amen.
