1 John 2:6 - He who says he
abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked. (NKJV)
Ten days ago, for the first time in more than a
century, both the United States and Canada allowed a man to walk across Niagara
Falls on a tightrope. The event was televised during prime time, and as people
tuned in, they witnessed Nik Wallenda battle wind and heavy spray at night. This
550-metre walk took him 25 minutes, suspended 60 metres up. The event was
televised by an American network, and during the walk, he was in contact with
his father through a two-way radio and a small earpiece.
He was also in constant communication with his
heavenly Father: "My God, it's incredible; it's breathtaking; I feel really
well!" What I found most incredible is that the network worked with a
five-second delay, so they would have been able to edit out any part of the
conversations that took place. They didn't do it, and so, during these 25
minutes, we constantly heard conversation between Mr. Wallenda and his Father in
heaven as he prayed out loud and praised his God. What a testimony this was to
all who watched this and to those who have talked about it in the days since.
We also know that Jesus, too, spoke with His Father in
heaven constantly during a walk He took to the cross on Calvary so that we may
have access to our Father in heaven.
Through the walk that Mr. Wallenda did and the
network's choice not to edit his prayers, we have been given an awesome
opportunity to share the good news of Jesus' walk with people whom we talk with
and meet. As Christians, we need to be constantly on the lookout for
opportunities like this to share Jesus.
Romans 1:9 - For God is my witness, whom I serve with
my spirit in the gospel of His Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you
always in my prayers. (NKJV)
Prayer: Dear Jesus, thank You again for what You did
on Calvary for us. Lord, help us to share the truth and the testimony that each
of us has about how You have changed our lives. In Your name, we pray. Amen.
