I was just about to turn off my computer when the phone
rang. I looked at the clock. It was 11:00 p.m. It is truly amazing how many
anxious thoughts ran through my mind. I could feel my stomach churning.
Reluctantly, I answered the phone. It was my youngest daughter, Cindy, on the
line.
"Hi mom, the Big Guy was certainly looking after me today." And she proceeded to
tell me her story.
After work, Cindy decided to take a different route home. She said that
something inside suggested to take this route. As she was driving along,
listening to the radio and singing, she noticed that the road seemed to be
getting a little bumpy. She turned down the radio and heard the screeching
sound. She knew right away that she had a flat tire. There was a safe place to
pull over just a few feet in front of her. She called her husband on the
cellphone and told him what had happened and that he needed to come and help her
change her tire. As she waited, cars and trucks sped by her. Finally, one truck
stopped, and two guys stepped out of the cab. Cindy said that she was a little
leery at first, until she noticed the logos on their shirts and the truck: they
were tire experts.
"Well, Miss, today is your lucky day," one of the guys said. It took them two
minutes to get those old rusted bolts off, take off the flat tire, and put the
spare one on. They also told her that they never come this way, but something
suggested that they take this route. Coincidence?
Deuteronomy 4:30-31 - When you are in distress and all these things have come
upon you, in the latter days, you will return to the Lord your God and listen to
His voice. For the Lord your God is a compassionate God; He will not fail you
nor destroy you nor forget the covenant with your fathers which He swore to
them. (NASB)
God knew that my daughter was going to have a flat tire, and He provided help
for her. She listened to that still small voice telling her to take a different
route. The tire experts listened to that still small voice telling them to take
that same different route. Today, may we all listen to God's still small voice
-- it may save our lives!
1 Kings 19:12 - And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the
fire; and after the fire a still small voice. (NKJV)
Prayer: Lord, You are an awesome God. You love and care for each and every one
of us. Help us to listen and not ignore Your whispers, which are life-saving.
Help us to trust in You as You direct our paths in life. Amen.
